Looking for a Mt Baker Bike Club bike ride on Labor Day?
Want to enjoy fresh air, beaches, bicycling, group ride camaraderie, and beer (caffeine before the ride, beer after the ride.)
Come and join the Birch Bay Beach Cat Brewery ride. This fun loop ride starts and ends at the Beach Cat Brewery, 7876 Birch Bay Dr. Start time is 10 am.
The ride is 28 miles and 758’ of climbing. Pace is 10 - 16 mph.
Enjoy scenic views of Birch Bay, Semiahmoo Park & Spit, Birch Bay State Park, and more.
After the ride enjoy a cold beverage at the Beach Cat Brewery outdoor beer garden. Outside food is welcome at the Beach Cat. Bring a picnic lunch or purchase from a food truck.
Whatcom Community College North Parking Lot
This "Ramp Up" Skills Development Ride starts at the Whatcom Community College northeast parking lot, meet at 5:45 p.m., leave at 6 p.m.
Location note: the map pin leads to the Auxiliary Services Building, which is at the entrance to the parking lot. Keep going past that and look to your left as you near the athletic fields. We‘ll be congregating at the parking lot nearby.
The speed and route will vary by each group‘s ride leaders. Initially riders will be grouped by ability and average speed. Speed groups: 14-16 mph, 16-18 mph, and 18+) Distance 15 to 20 miles. Ride focus on skills necessary to ride in groups.
We will concentrate on safe riding practices, pace-line skills, how to overtake other riders and pass them in a safe manner, and how to deal with traffic.
Regular attendance is the best way to improve your skills, though we know not everyone can make every ride. We‘ll all improve together with a reasonable level of commitment. This is more of a skill and fitness builder than a drop-in social ride - but all are welcome.
Riders will sign in at the meeting place.
Gravel parking lot on Granary Ave, across the street from the Acid Ball
Weekly ride each Thursday from Trackside. Meet at the parking lot across from the Acid Ball near the Granary.
The route will be an urban in-city route at a moderate pace. The rides are designed to be 20 miles long with 1,000 feet of climbing. Expect to encounter car traffic, stop signs, stop lights, crossing busy intersections, etc.
The route will change each week, and Ride Leader Bob Dinehart will show off some fun spots, hidden gems, and great views.
There may be a few short places where the ride uses the trail system over packed gravel, but these areas will be brief and few - unless otherwise noted. If you have questions, reach out to Bob.

The ride starts and ends at Stone‘s Throw Brewery. Beautiful south Whatcom country road rambler. Highlights include: Lake Samish, Bow, Colony Rd, Alger, Prairie Rd, Parson Creek Rd, Friday Creek Rd and return to Stone‘s Throw. Ride is 45 miles, 2475 feet of climbing, pace is 15 to 17 mph on flats. The weather is forecast to be 70F+ on Saturday. We‘ll start the ride at 9 am and finished before 1 pm. No planned lunch stop, riders need to bring water, food, bars, gels, sandwiches, etc. Pack a lunch for after the ride, Stone‘s Throw Brewery allows outside food. Usually a food truck at Stone‘s Throw also.

Bob Dinehart is the Ride Leader. The ride starts and ends at 8292 Shintaffer Rd, Birch Bay 98230. Bright gold house near corner of Shintaffer Road Birch Bay Drive.
Plenty of parking available at home.
Route is 47 miles, 1839 feet climbing. Highlights of the ride are Birch Bay, Semiahmoo Spit, Drayton Harbor, Blaine, Peace Arch, Custer.
No food stops on the ride, bring your own nourishment while on the bike. After the ride, hang out on Ciaran’s deck and enjoy a cold beverage and something hot off the grill.
Bring something to grill and your favorite beverage.
